These records can also be confusing for researcher who is unfamiliar with their structure, purpose, terminology, and organization. This September\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1265 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/deeed-example-300x137.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/deeed-example-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/deeed-example.jpg 868w\" alt=\"deeed-example\" width=\"300\" height=\"137\" \/>\u00a0we\u2019ll be starting a series of my \u201cUnited States Land Records\u201d course due to popular demand.\u00a0 I\u2019ve used land records extensively in my thirty-some years of family history research and have used them to solve a variety of genealogical research problems. Join us and discover more about this wonderful set of records.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve researched my own farming ancestors in land records for over thirty years both in federal and state land states.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees will download the actual lecture to view at their leisure several days before the discussion session to follow. This allows attendees to view the presentation without connectivity issues and they can stop and pause the presentation as they need to. Discussion sessions<br \/>\nwill be the time to ask questions \u201clive.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paypal.com\/cgi-bin\/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&amp;hosted_button_id=R5YCC76685YSC\">Registration is limited.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Content:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Week 1\u2013discussion of different types of deeds, terms and definitions, record keeping practices and procedures, types of land ownership, and women\u2019s property ownership changes over time.<\/li>\n<li>Week 2\u2013discussion of metes and<br \/>\nbounds legal descriptions, property descriptions in metes and bounds states, pre-Federal land records, and general research strategies in those states.<\/li>\n<li>Week 3\u2013discussion of legal descriptions in federal land states, property descriptions in federal land states, and an overview of federal land records (bounty lands, cash land sales, homestead claims, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Week 4\u2013online demonstration of actual land record searches using indexes and records selected from online materials at <em>FamilySearch.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Week 5\u2013online demonstration of search techniques and approaches to the federal land patents hosted at the Bureau of Land Management website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Homework:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homework <em>is optional<\/em>\u2013there\u2019s no grade.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Week 1\u2013two local land records<\/li>\n<li>Week 2\u2013two metes and bounds deeds<\/li>\n<li>Week 3\u2013research problem in a federal land state<\/li>\n<li>Week 4\u2013a \u201ccan you find\u201d it problem where records needed are available free online at\u00a0<em>FamilySearch.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Week 5\u2013no \u201chomework,\u201d but problems will be posted to our discussion forum a week before the lecture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Schedule\u2013discussions (attendance <em>is not required<\/em> as they will be recorded and available for download):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 May 7\u00a0pm. central time\u2013discussion 1<\/li>\n<li>13\u00a0May 7\u00a0pm. central time\u2013discussion 2<\/li>\n<li>20\u00a0May 7\u00a0pm. central time\u2013discussion 3<\/li>\n<li>27 May 7\u00a0pm. central time\u2013discussion 4<\/li>\n<li>3 June 7 pm central time&#8211;discussion 5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paypal.com\/cgi-bin\/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&amp;hosted_button_id=R5YCC76685YSC\">Registration is only $45<\/a>.
