In 1843 Marquette County was cut out of the eastern part of the state. In 1847 Marquette, with some additional territory from Adams, was used to create Highland County. Highland County never came to fruition either and the territory reverted back to Adams County.<\/p>\n<p>Had Highland come to fruition my mother&#8217;s Adams County ancestors wouldn&#8217;t have been Adams County ancestors at all. They would have been Highland County ancestors.<\/p>\n<p>And there&#8217;s undoubtedly other references in various records and publications to Marquette and Highland Counties in Illinois during the 1840s.
