{"id":2652,"date":"2016-04-30T20:25:56","date_gmt":"2016-04-30T20:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=2652"},"modified":"2016-04-30T20:25:56","modified_gmt":"2016-04-30T20:25:56","slug":"three-lessons-i-remembered-and-one-i-forgot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=2652","title":{"rendered":"Three Lessons I Remembered and One I Forgot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Somewhere online (the precise location I will not mention) I recently read that all the Bureau of Land Management Tract books were online at\u00a0<em>FamilySearch<\/em>. \u00a0The last time I checked <em>FamilySearch\u00a0<\/em>Missouri&#8217;s books were not online.\u00a0There were some families in Chariton County who filed pre-emption claims and I wanted to see if there were any neighboring families who filed claims that were eventually cancelled. I was hoping to look in the updated list of online materials<\/p>\n<p>The only problem was that it wasn&#8217;t true. All the books were not online. They still aren&#8217;t. Either the author copied the information\u00a0from someone else or assumed the list was complete because there were a lot of states listed.<\/p>\n<p>Four\u00a0reminders from that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Don&#8217;t believe everything you read.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t assume anything&#8211;check it out.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t just copy and paste information&#8211;check it out.<\/li>\n<li>Write things down as soon as you think of them.
