{"id":3053,"date":"2016-07-28T16:00:28","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T16:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=3053"},"modified":"2016-07-28T16:00:28","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T16:00:28","slug":"why-cant-ancestry-com-suggest-the-joseph-who-never-moves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=3053","title":{"rendered":"Why Can&#8217;t Ancestry.com Suggest the Joseph Who Never Moves?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Things like this are why I wonder about the search algorithms at\u00a0<em>Ancestry.com\u00a0<\/em>that generate search suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>In 1870 and 1880, Irish native Joseph Neill is living in Saint Albans Township in Hancock County, Illinois.<\/p>\n<p>His enumerations are fairly consistent and\u00a0<em>Ancestry.com<\/em> has transcribed them faithfully.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1870-Joseph Neil, aged 27 (born about 1843), native of Ireland<\/li>\n<li>1880-Joseph Neill, aged 37 (born about 1843), native of Ireland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And yet on\u00a0<em>Ancestry.com<\/em> when I pull up the &#8220;individual record,&#8221; there are no suggested records for either entry. It would seem that given the consistency of these two entries (living in same location, same year of birth, same nativity) that each one would be suggested on the other.<\/p>\n<p>The places of residence are actually entered in differently (based on how they are on the actual census record). In 1880 the location is &#8220;Saint Albans&#8221; and in 1870 the location is &#8220;St. Albans.&#8221; But both are correctly located in Hancock County, Illinois.
