{"id":4007,"date":"2017-01-18T05:58:47","date_gmt":"2017-01-18T05:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=4007"},"modified":"2017-01-18T21:26:25","modified_gmt":"2017-01-18T21:26:25","slug":"my-irish-neills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=4007","title":{"rendered":"My Irish Neills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like many genealogists with Irish immigrants, I don&#8217;t have a great deal of information on my Irish family in Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Neill immigrated as a single man in 1864, arriving in <a href=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/samuel-neill2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4011 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/samuel-neill2-182x300.jpg\" alt=\"samuel-neill2\" width=\"182\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/samuel-neill2-182x300.jpg 182w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/samuel-neill2.jpg 455w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 182px) 100vw, 182px\" \/><\/a>Canada&#8217;s New Brunswick Province with his married brother Joseph and Joseph&#8217;s young family. The Neills were living in Limavady when they left Ireland for Canada. Their immigration information appears in\u00a0Brian Mitchell&#8217;s\u00a0<i>Irish Passenger Lists 1847-1871: Lists of Passengers Sailing from Londonderry to America on Ships of the J. &amp; J. COOKE Line and the McCORKELL\u00a0 Line <\/i>(Genealogical\u00a0 Publishing\u00a0 Co., Balto., MD.\u00a0 1988).<\/p>\n<p>Samuel&#8217;s brother Joseph was married in Ireland before the family&#8217;s immigration to the United States:<\/p>\n<div><b>From\u00a0 the &#8220;Quarterly returns of Marriages 1862 Ireland\u00a0 Vol.\u00a0 9,&#8221; LDS microfilm roll 0101440, page 375.<\/b><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-_2IZyuH7a88\/VQg1BsTxjVI\/AAAAAAAAPq4\/ulO5bs7Y9Fo\/s1600\/neills-1890s.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-_2IZyuH7a88\/VQg1BsTxjVI\/AAAAAAAAPq4\/ulO5bs7Y9Fo\/s1600\/neills-1890s.jpg\" width=\"320\" height=\"267\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div>On\u00a0 16 January 1862 at the Derrymore Presbyterian Church,\u00a0 Joseph NEIL[sic] and Ann BRYCE[sic] were married by Wm. [JAMISON?], with witnesses\u00a0 of\u00a0 Wm. MC INTOSH and John ARCHIBALD.\u00a0 Joseph\u00a0 was\u00a0 of full\u00a0 age\u00a0 and was a bachelor who lived in [Taques] Hill\u00a0 in\u00a0 the parish\u00a0 of Drumachose.\u00a0 Joseph was a servant, and was the son\u00a0 of John NEIL[sic] who was a laborer.\u00a0 Ann was a spinster of full age and\u00a0 was\u00a0 a servant living in White [??] in the parish of\u00a0 Drumachose.\u00a0 Her father was James BRYCE, a laborer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Samuel and Annie Murphy were married in New Brunswick in 1865. Unfortunately there is no additional information on the family in their marriage record there. Nothing is known about Annie&#8217;s Irish origins other than she was born in the late 1830s\/early 1840s and was a native of Ireland.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-JJz7omFzX7Q\/VQg1Bc3J5SI\/AAAAAAAAPq0\/749uL7lyDtM\/s1600\/annie-murphy-neill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-JJz7omFzX7Q\/VQg1Bc3J5SI\/AAAAAAAAPq0\/749uL7lyDtM\/s1600\/annie-murphy-neill.jpg\" width=\"217\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>The Neills moved to near West Point, Hancock County, Illinois in the late 1860s and remained there until their deaths. Research in Hancock County has not located any information related to Annie&#8217;s Irish origins. The Neills settled in Hancock County likely because Joseph&#8217;s wife, Anne Brice, had family already in the area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Annie (Murphy) Neill died in St. Albans Township in 1897.
