{"id":5154,"date":"2017-07-28T15:22:29","date_gmt":"2017-07-28T15:22:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=5154"},"modified":"2017-07-28T18:20:57","modified_gmt":"2017-07-28T18:20:57","slug":"will-i-know-if-im-not-in-the-clique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/?p=5154","title":{"rendered":"Will I Know If I&#8217;m Not in the Clique?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m in eight circles on <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>as of this writing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Christianna (DeMoss) Rampley<\/strong>\u00a0(born in the early 1770s probably in Harford County, Maryland.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hinrich Janssen Ufkes<\/strong>\u00a0(born 1797 Ostfriesland, Germany) and the circle for his wife\u00a0<strong>Trientje Eilts (Post) Ufkes\u00a0<\/strong>(born 1803 Wiesens, Ostfriesland, Germany)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Riley Rampley<\/strong>\u00a0(born 1835 Coshocton County, Ohio) and the circle for his wife\u00a0<strong>Nancy Jane (Newman) Rampley<\/strong>(born 1846 Rush County, Indiana)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Johann Friederichs Hinrichs Ufkes<\/strong>\u00a0(born 1838 Wiesens, Ostfriesland, Germany)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Johann Luken Jurgens Ehmen Goldenstein<\/strong>\u00a0(born 1814 Wrisse, Ostfriesland, Germany and his wife\u00a0<strong>Tjade Anna Focken (Tammen) Goldenstein<\/strong>\u00a0(born 1824 Buhren, Ostfriesland, Germany)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While the\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a><\/em>\u00a0circles are still in beta mode, I&#8217;m a little bit curious.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5155 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/michael-dna-cirles-28-july-2017-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/michael-dna-cirles-28-july-2017-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/michael-dna-cirles-28-july-2017-768x506.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/michael-dna-cirles-28-july-2017.jpg 915w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not in a circle for the husband Christianna (DeMoss) Rampley or the wife of Johann Friederichs Hinrichs Ufkes.<\/p>\n<p>I am hoping this is because the results are in beta mode and that the circles for these people have not yet been compiled.<\/p>\n<p>But will I be told if there&#8217;s a circle for Christianna&#8217;s husband or Johann&#8217;s wife and that I&#8217;m not in it?<\/p>\n<p>Because I think to get in a circle at <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a><\/em>, one has to be a DNA match for someone first and then their trees are compared to see if there&#8217;s a shared ancestor. It is a two-step process, beginning with the DNA match. I realize that once the ancestor is a significantly back in the lineage I may share no DNA with them and they may still be my ancestor. There is a difference between paper ancestors who appear in my tree and DNA ancestors with whom I share DNA&#8211;especially after one gets back beyond the third great-grandparents or so.<\/p>\n<p>So if I&#8217;m not a DNA match for the &#8220;circle&#8221; of one of the ancestors on my tree will I get a notification?<\/p>\n<p>And if I&#8217;m not in the circle how worried should I be?<\/p>\n<p>It partially depends upon how far back the connection is. That&#8217;s the best answer I have at this point.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Note: I do match with known descendants of all my great-great-grandparents who have tested with\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Frederich and Trientje (Janssen) Ufkes (great-grandparents)&#8211;two children of my grandfather&#8217;s brother have also tested. We all share significant DNA and\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>predicted that each of them and I are\u00a0between first and second cousins (which is correct).<\/li>\n<li>Mimka and Tjode (Goldenstein) Habben (great-grandparents)&#8211;one child of two separate siblings of my grandmother have tested. We all share significant DNA and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>predicted that each of them and I are between first and second cousins (which is correct).<\/li>\n<li>George and Ida (Sargent) Trautvetter (great-grandparents)&#8211;the child of one of my grandmother&#8217;s siblings has tested. The grandchild of another of my grandmother&#8217;s siblings has tested. The relationships suggested <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tkqlhce.com\/click-865524-10508559\">AncestryDNA<\/a><\/em>\u00a0by are consistent with our known relationship.<\/li>\n<li>Charlie and Fannie (Rampley) Neill (great-grandparents)&#8211;I am the only descendant who has tested. However four other known descendants of Charlie&#8217;s parents have tested&#8211;we match and the relationships are correct. Several other descendants of Fannie&#8217;s parents have tested and we share matches (that&#8217;s the circles of Riley and Nancy (Newman) Rampley as shown above.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m in eight circles on AncestryDNA\u00a0as of this writing: Christianna (DeMoss) Rampley\u00a0(born in the early 1770s probably in Harford County, Maryland.
