The first search screen has the typical fields upon which one can search.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5687\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"816\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook1.jpg 816w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook1-300x151.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook1-768x388.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, when viewing the actual search results, a different search screen comes up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5688\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook2.jpg 598w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook2-300x261.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this case, the search can be conducted only searching for the &#8220;other person.&#8221; In the Cook County death database this &#8220;other person&#8221; is the informant.<\/p>\n<p>This allowed me to search for death certificates in the database that had someone with the last name of Trautvetter as the informant.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5689\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"529\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook3.jpg 529w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/search-cook3-277x300.jpg 277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 529px) 100vw, 529px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not all databases in\u00a0<em>FamilySearch<\/em> were created in quite the same way&#8211;some don&#8217;t extract the same information as others do. However, don&#8217;t just rely on that &#8220;initial&#8221; search screen as your source for searchable options. Look at the &#8220;refine your search&#8221; menu on the left hand side of your results screen.
