View their &#8220;transcription&#8221; to see how the data (particularly the location) appears in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/click-865524-11714212?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ancestry.com%2Fsearch%2Fdb.aspx%3Fhtx%3DList%26dbid%3D7884\"><em>Ancestry<\/em>&#8216;s databas<\/a>e. This allows you to know exactly how\u00a0<em>Ancestry<\/em> transcribed the location. This is key for some locations. Don&#8217;t guess at how the location is in the database for that specific census year&#8211;check it out. It may not appear in the dropdown list of locations.<\/li>\n<li>Perform a search without names for that location&#8211;in this case that was done by performing an exact search for Hancock County, Illinois, with\u00a0St Albans in the keyword (exact).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7326\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/st-albans.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"633\" height=\"729\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/st-albans.jpg 633w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/st-albans-260x300.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 633px) 100vw, 633px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using that same search box, you can enter in places of birth. I discovered that in 1910, St. Albans Township had 15 natives of Ireland.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7327\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ireland-st-albans.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"617\" height=\"429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ireland-st-albans.jpg 617w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ireland-st-albans-300x209.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 617px) 100vw, 617px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A little more experimenting discovered\u00a0 that St. Albans Township had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>18 natives of Ohio<\/li>\n<li>10 natives of Kentucky<\/li>\n<li>16 natives of Iowa<\/li>\n<li>26 natives of Germany<\/li>\n<li>876 natives of Illinois<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A similar search for Bear Creek Township, Hancock County, Illinois, in 1910 indicated 936 residents. This number included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>54 natives of Germany<\/li>\n<li>20 natives of France<\/li>\n<li>2 natives of Ireland<\/li>\n<li>5 natives of Nebraska<\/li>\n<li>12 natives of Ohio<\/li>\n<li>10 natives of Virginia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Keep in mind that these numbers are dependent on the search being performed carefully and correctly.
