Instead we&#8217;ll take a different approach to the new year.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some research suggestions to remember in 2015:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use contemporary\u00a0[to the problem]\u00a0maps<\/li>\n<li>Cite sources<\/li>\n<li>Avoid using record transcriptions<\/li>\n<li>Determine a record&#8217;s likely informant<\/li>\n<li>Question the reliability of the likely informant<\/li>\n<li>Ask &#8220;how did this record get to me from its\u00a0<i>original\u00a0<\/i>location?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Question (respectfully) the conclusions of others<\/li>\n<li>List the assumptions that have been made<\/li>\n<li>Reorganize the information in a different way?<\/li>\n<li>Do other record sources have copies of the same record?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>Not an exhaustive list by any stretch of the imagination, but certain to keep most of us thinking in 2015!<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These were my &#8220;not New Year&#8217;s Resolutions&#8221; from 2015&#8212;but they are worth repeating.
