I expected a petition for early release and maybe a few letters about his behavior while incarcerated, but also ran across this letter from October of 1862. Apparently Kile wanted to join his four sons \u00a0and son-in-law who were already in the Civil War. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"766\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/kile-letter1862.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8807\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/kile-letter1862.jpg 766w, https:\/\/rootdig.genealogytipoftheday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/kile-letter1862-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nA search of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ilsos.gov\/isaveterans\/civilmustersrch.jsp\">&#8220;Illinois Civil War Muster and Descriptive Rolls&#8221;<\/a>&nbsp;at the&nbsp;<em>Illinois State Archives&nbsp;<\/em>website indicated that there were actually six men with the surname Kile in Company H of the 84th Illinois. The men who were not Kile&#8217;s sons were likely his nephews as William had several brothers who also lived in Mercer County, Illinois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of this posting, I&#8217;m not exactly certain who wrote this letter. Hopefully a little searching will reveal the name of the author.
