Why We Have No Sponsor

There’s a reason why this blog has no sponsor: I don’t want to be “holden” to no one.

While I do have affiliate links to a variety of products (Ancestry.com, GenealogyBank, Amazon.com, Fold3.com etc.), I am under no obligation to mention their products.  If readers click on those links and buy products, fine–I make a little cash. If no one clicks on them, that is fine too. But there is no sponsor of this blog with their name in a variety of places indicating their sponsorship. Because of that there is no sponsor that I feel I have to “keep happy” in order to keep their sponsorship check coming in.

I’ve never wanted to have to write about something because a sponsor wanted me to. I’ve never wanted to act like a service or product was more than it was because a sponsor wanted me to. I write about things because I use them or because I find them interesting–not because someone in someone’s marketing department put it on my to-do list.

I’ve also never liked to write about something just because it was new and to act like it was more than it was. That’s not the way we roll around here. I’m certain that irritates a few people, but that’s the way it is.

There’s another reason there’s no sponsor for this blog: they don’t know what I will say.

And that’s just fine with me.
