John Michael Trautvetter was born in 1839 Wohlmuthausen, Thuringen, Germany, and died in 1917 Walker Township, Hancock County, Illinois. He married Franciska Bieger in 1868 in Walker Township, Hancock County, Illinois.
From John Michael, I learned:
- Family traditions can contain tall tales. I doubt the story that John Michael encountered cannibals in South America is true.
- Document all land transactions. Mortgages and releases between John Michael and his in-laws suggested they were divorced.
- Some people can use a variety of diminutives. John Michael went by John, John Michael, Michael, Mike and occasionally J. M.
- Get help if you can’t carry the wood to your upstairs bedroom fireplace. John fell while carrying wood up a flight of stairs and died from the resulting fall.
