I’ve opted for a paper copy of the new edition Evidence Explained. While I realize the occasional ease with which an electronic copy can be used, I’m sticking with the hardbound traditional book format. The only drawback to getting a new edition is that my old one has handwritten notes all over it–things I want to remember, things I don’t quite understand, things I want to look into further, and the occasional item with which I don’t agree. I know that some people are hesitant to write in books, but I adapted the habit at some point in my college career and have stuck with it ever since. Some reference books like Evidence Explained are meant to be used, not preserved like an archival copy.
Some are intimidated by the size of the book-and the price isn’t exactly cheap. But it costs less than attending most seminars or workshops. Even just a careful reading of the first two chapters will give readers good food for thought even if they never publish one word of their genealogical research. Evidence Explained is about making your research better and the story you tell of your ancestors’ lives more accurate.
We’ll be discussing the new edition of Evidence Explained when it makes its merry way to my real world inbox.
