The Montezuma arrived in New York City in 1841. The manifest entries for the passengers included what was in their luggage. Listing out the items in the luggage is not typical for the time period.

A nice little discovery.

The manifest is available digitally on FamilySearch in their collection of New York Passenger lists from 1820-1891

  1. I found this very interesting. I’ve looked at many passenger manifests and have not seen this. Your post was not clear on how to find this. Could you provide some additional information?

    • I stumbled on it while searching for a specific person in a manifest. It’s not something one often sees. I was not looking for information on what people was bringing when I came across this manifest.
