It’s not often that I encounter a marriage record for someone’s fifth marriage. This 1883 marriage between Emma Pollard and David Snavely in Cromwell, Iowa, was Emma’s fifth.
It is mentioned because this was an excellent place for me to obtain the names of her parents, Clark Sargent and Mary Dingman.
Every marriage record of relatives who marry multiple times should be obtained, no matter how long the marriage lasts or how many children result. From a genealogy standpoint those are not the only issue.
It’s about the records and the information they may contain.
Emma married one more time and that record gives the same parental names as does this one.

I had the same experience when I came across a fourth marriage for one of my husband’s ancestors. It was the first and only record I’ve ever found proving her parentage.
