Fredericka Marie (Sartorius) Janssen was born in Adams County, Illinois, in 1865 and died in Hancock County, Illinois, in 1913. She married Jans Jurgens Janssen in Adams County in 1888. A few things I learned from Fredericka:
- Children can spend significant time with their grandparents even if their parents are alive. Fredericka is enumerated with her maternal grandparents in the 1880 census and not with her parents who were living nearby. She was the only one of her siblings to be mentioned in their grandfather’s will.
- Some names come from family and some do not. Fredericka is an oft-used name in her paternal family. Maria is apparently not a family name.
- An extended illness can impact a family in many ways. Fredericka was ill with tuberculosis for the last several years of her life.
My ancestor table can be viewed on my site. Fredericka (Sartorius) Janssen is my great-great-grandmother.
