There is not really a fix, but rather a workaround on the search irtrautvetter-kindaworksregularity that was noted a few days ago on the “All Kansas, City and County Census Records, 1919-1961” at Ancestry.com.

Apparently having:

  • Sounds like
  • Similar
  • Soundex

checked simultaneously overwhelms the system. Checking only “Soundex” will provide Soundex results. I did get “Troutfetter” when searching for “Trautvetter” with just the Soundex option checked.

I’ve been told that the “fix is in the works.”

I’m not certain if this is a problem on other Ancestry.com databases or not. Personally I don’t think users should have to “figure out” the system when it’s not working, but that’s a story for another post.

And, as we’ve mentioned here before: “If there are things that I can see that are not working correctly, it makes me wonder what else may not be working correctly.”
