William Newman was born about 1818 in Kentucky most likely in the Bourbon County area and died in the 1880s (according to his daughter Nancy) “near to Moberly, Missouri.” He married Rebecca Tinsley in 1839 in Rush County, Indiana. Some things I’ve learned about research from William:
- Some people are movers. William and his wife are not in the same location in any federal census enumeration from 1840 in Rush County, Indiana, through their death in the 1880s.
- People can buy property where they never live. William purchased a forty-acre piece federal land in Tipton County, Indiana. There is no evidence that the family ever lived in Tipton County.
- Older adults may move where they know no one. In their fifties, William and Rebecca moved to an area of Missouri where they had no known relatives.
My ancestor table can be viewed on my site. William is my 3rd great-grandfather.
