Coshocton County, Ohio, in the United Kingdom in 1824?

The original list indicated that Thomas J. Rampley was a “non-resident.” He actually died some time in 1823. Thomas is not the only person on this list who is transcribed with an “Event Place” of the United Kingdom.

The list on which Thomas appears for 1824 from Coshocton County, Ohio, appears to be the “Duplicate List” for the entire county sorted by first letter of the last name. The range and township numbers for the property are listed. Section 5 in Township 7-7 is where Thomas’ property is located and his entry indicated that his property was the NW quarter of the section for a total of 166 acres.

Why the entries are tagged as the “United Kingdom” is a mystery.

The second event place tagged in his entry is correct as the tax list is not sorted by any smaller jurisdiction other than the county.

Again–always read the actual record.
