William Ira Sargent was born about 1843 probably near Darlington, Ontario, Canada. He died in 1916 in Limestone Township, Peoria County, Illinois. He married Florence Ellen Butler in Union County, Iowa, in 1870.

What I have learned from William Ira:

  • What you think is a first name may actually be a middle name. It may take decades to discover this.
  • Research is more difficult when you are unaware that someone’s father died and that they are listed in records under their step-father’s name
  • Some people move on a regular basis.
  • Don’t quit looking, even if you’ve been searching for twenty-five years. That’s how long it took me to find Ira’s parents.

My ancestor table can be viewed on my site. Ira is my great-great-grandfather.

  1. 25 years?? I’ve only been searching for my family for 11 years, and I’ve been having a pity party for the ones I can’t find. Guess I need to keep looking a while longer!

  2. I began to do my search in 1976….still looking in 2017….a very good way to keep my brain alert or so the Doctors like to say..Spell checker along with Google and any other Search Engine which appear helps with corrections or connections….Enjoying all the chats and tips which appear… Never thought it was a waste of my time…
